  1. How long have you worked with Therapy Staff? I have worked for Therapy Staff since spring 2010.
  2. What made you decide to become a therapist? The idea of helping people regain function after a stroke.
  3. What is the favorite part about your job? I love my job, but my favorite part is when my patients think they will never return home again, or never be able to do things they were able to do before a stroke, or other disabling event. Then they turn to you with tears in their eyes and say thank you and good bye, before they walk out the door to go home.  Those are the times you know it’s all worth it.
Another favorite part of my job is to be able to travel to five different states and make such wonderful friends along the way.  Friends that stay in touch with you and are interested in where you are and when you are coming back their way.  But also, a friend I have made with my recruiter, Amy.  She is always there on the phone, day or night, ready to answer questions or reassure me.  This may be her job, but she truly has become a great friend along the way.
  4. Any funny stories you can share about working? An attendant and I would always play April Fools jokes on one another.  On this day I decided to go to a hospital bed and cover myself as if I am deceased.  Another therapist was to send the attendant after a patient for therapy.  I lay quietly behind the curtain until I heard a voice and then I sat up and yelled out expecting to see the shocked face of my attendant.  To my surprise it was not the attendant but the vice president of the hospital with another hospital board member.  The joke was on me.  They didn’t say a word and turned and walked out of the room.  Surprisingly I worked there for 8 years.
  5. If you weren’t a therapist, what would you be doing for a living?
If I wasn't a therapist I probably would like to be an event planner.  I love to organize weddings and parties.  But, I would have to work weekends so I would have to think about that more.
  6. What are your hobbies or interests? I love to hike and camp.  My assignment this past summer was in Colorado and I got to experience the Rocky Mountains.  What a fantastic experience to be able to hike and camp and enjoy the beauty each and every day.  I am interested in hiking one day in the Yosemite and Yellowstone Parks.
  7. What is your favorite quote? I always told my children that their only goal in life is to be happy.  When you are happy it is so contagious to those around you.  I have always loved the words below and in the past few years it has never been more meaningful to me.

“Today is the beginning of a new day.  I can waste it or grow in its light and be service to others.  But what I do with this day is important because I have exchanged a day of my life for it.  When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever.  I hope I will not regret the price I paid for it.”

What do love about your job?
Every day in staffing presents new challenges and rewards.  I enjoy working with people on a daily basis building relationships and providing a great place for our employees to work.

What was your strangest job?
I honestly would have to say that none of my jobs have been strange by any means.  In high school and college it was the typical fast food hot spots, tanning salon and then I moved into the banking industry and  healthcare staffing.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of Therapy Staff?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I also LOVE vacationing!  I am a pretty high energy person and cannot sit around relaxing for too long.

What is your favorite movie?
I don’t have an exact favorite but I do have a few that I really enjoy.  (The Hangover, The Notebook, Serendipity)

What is your favorite food?
Once again I do not have a favorite.  I love all food!  Eating is one of my favorite things to do.  I am always looking forward to a great meal.

What is the best advice you ever got?
Live life to the fullest!

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
Since I have moved to Chicago, I have not owned a vehicle for the last 4 years.  I walk or take public transit everywhere.  Most of my life is consumed within less than 5 miles.  Pretty weird to think about.
